As you glide across the calm waters of Lake Mburo, you will be treated to exceptional wildlife viewing, especially along the shoreline where animals gather to drink, feed, or cool off.

This boat safari offers close-up encounters with large pods of hippos submerged in the water, occasionally surfacing with grunts and splashes. Nile crocodiles can often be seen basking on the banks or lurking just beneath the surface. The cruise also provides excellent opportunities to observe herds of buffalo wallowing in the mud, as well as various species of antelopes such as impalas, waterbucks, and topis grazing along the lakeside vegetation. The tranquil setting also makes it easier to observe wildlife behaviours without disturbing them. By the end of the cruise, you will have enjoyed a unique perspective of the park’s wildlife and landscapes, with excellent opportunities for photography and peaceful reflection. Day 3: Game Drive – Boat cruise

Morning Game Drive: You will begin your day early, departing from your lodge just before sunrise to take advantage of the best wildlife viewing hours. You may either have a quick breakfast at the lodge or pack a breakfast to enjoy later in the bush. Your morning game drive will take you into the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park, specifically the Kasenyi or Mweya plains areas, renowned for their rich concentration of wildlife. This early morning drive, lasting approximately three hours, offers a prime opportunity to observe a variety of animals at their most active.

You will be on the lookout for early risers such as antelopes and buffalo, as well as nocturnal species and apex predators like leopards and lions, which tend to retreat into hiding as the sun climbs higher. Large pods of hippos may be seen returning to the water, and the landscape will be alive with the calls and colours of both resident and migratory bird species. After the game drive, your driver-guide will take you back to the lodge where you can unwind, freshen up, and enjoy a well-deserved lunch as you reflect on the morning’s wildlife encounters.

Afternoon Boat cruise: After lunch and a short period of relaxation at your lodge, you will head out for an afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway that links Lake George to Lake Edward. The cruise typically begins around 2:00 PM and lasts approximately two hours, offering a unique perspective on the park’s diverse wildlife from the comfort of your boat.

This scenic water on a Uganda safari provides an excellent opportunity to observe one of the highest concentrations of hippos in Africa, often seen in large pods wallowing and grunting in the shallow waters. Along the shores of the channel, you are likely to spot Nile crocodiles basking in the sun, herds of buffalo cooling off at the water’s edge, and elephants coming down to drink or bathe. Warthogs and other plains game may also be seen grazing along the banks. Bird enthusiasts will be delighted by the abundance of avian life along the channel. Keep an eye out for striking species such as the saddle-billed stork, great white and pink-backed pelicans, African fish eagles, various herons, and cormorants, among many others.

As the boat gently glides along the waterway, you will enjoy both the rich wildlife encounters and the peaceful ambiance of the channel. After the cruise, your driver will transfer you back to the lodge where you can relax for the evening, enjoy a freshly prepared dinner, and settle in for an overnight stay surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura Gorge – Lion tracking Game Drive

Then you will start the trek under the guidance of an experienced ranger who is well conversant with the gorilla trails.

This takes about 30 to 3 hours or even longer, depending on the location of the chimpanzees, because they are always mobile, looking for food. Once the chimpanzees are found, you will be allowed to spend one hour around them, and you will be allowed to take photographs and record videos. After you will trek back to the headquarters where you will meet up with your driver and be taken back to your lodge for relaxation and lunch.

Lion Tracking Game Drive: After a well-deserved lunch at your lodge, you will meet your driver-guide and depart for an afternoon game drive and the famous climbing lion experience in the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Game drive will offer you a prime chance to spot tree-climbing lions resting on fig trees, a technique they use to hunt antelopes and other animals in the savannah grassland.
