3 Days Lake Mburo Safari Uganda Safari: This 3-day safari takes you to Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda’s smallest savanna park, renowned for its rich diversity of wildlife and scenic landscapes. It’s an ideal weekend escape for families, friends, or visitors attending conferences in Entebbe or Kampala who are looking to explore the wild side of Uganda without venturing too far from the capital. The park is located approximately 240 kilometers from Kampala along the Masaka–Mbarara highway, the park is easily accessible via the Nshara Gate, just 15 kilometers off the main road.
Lake Mburo National Park offers a unique Uganda safari experience with fewer predators, allowing various species of antelopes to thrive. During your visit, expect to see zebras, elands, topis, waterbucks, reedbucks, sitatungas, warthogs, bush pigs, hyenas, and vervet monkeys, among others. You’ll also have the chance to spot hippos, crocodiles, baboons, side-striped jackals, white-tailed mongooses, and otters. For birding experience, the park is a paradise with a rich collection of birdlife. Lake Mburo is also regarded as one of the best parks in Uganda for leopard sightings. The lake itself is home to six species of fish, including the commonly found tilapia and lungfish, making it a great spot for those interested in fishing or simply enjoying the peaceful waterside atmosphere

Detailed Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park – Horseback Riding or Game Drive
Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park: After enjoying your morning breakfast, our professional guide-driver will pick you up from your hotel or residence. Before departure, you’ll receive a detailed briefing about your upcoming 3-day safari. You will then begin a scenic 4-hour drive to southwestern Uganda, following the Masaka–Mbarara road toward Lake Mburo National Park. En route, you will make two enriching stopovers; first at Kayabwe Equator Crossing and at Mpambire Drum Village where you will observe skilled artisans crafting traditional African drums using age-old techniques. After these highlights, you will proceed to the park and enjoy lunch at your reserved lodge, with some time to relax before the afternoon adventure begins.
Horseback Riding or Game Drive: After lunch, you will have the option to embark on an unforgettable horseback safari, which begins at 2:00 PM and can last anywhere from 1 to 5 hours, depending on your preference. Riding through the park on horseback offers a unique and peaceful way to explore the landscape, bringing you closer to wildlife such as zebras, elands, topis, waterbucks, antelopes, buffaloes, giraffes, otters, and a wide variety of bird species. If horseback riding isn’t your preference, you can instead opt for a guided Uganda tour game drive, offering excellent opportunities to spot wildlife from the comfort of a Uganda safari vehicle. After your afternoon adventure, you will return to the lodge to unwind and enjoy a delicious dinner and overnight stay amidst the serene surroundings of Lake Mburo National Park.
Day 2: Morning Game Drive, Afternoon Boat cruise and Evening Nature Walk
Morning Game Drive: Start your day with an early breakfast, then prepare for a morning game drive along the scenic Kazuma track. This route offers breathtaking views of Lake Mburo National Park, including its rolling hills and all five of the park’s lakes. During the drive, you will venture deep into the park in search of wildlife such as zebras, elands, waterbucks, bushbucks, warthogs, impalas, and the elusive klipspringer. Early mornings are ideal for spotting nocturnal creatures and predators as they retreat after a night of hunting keep your eyes open for hyenas, leopards, and jackals. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for some refreshments and lunch, with time to relax before the next activity
Afternoon Boat Cruise: After lunch, your driver will take you for an exciting afternoon boat cruise on Lake Mburo, which begins at 2:00 PM and lasts approximately 2 hours. As you cruise along the shores of the lake, you will have excellent opportunities to observe a variety of wildlife, including hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks, and more. Bird enthusiasts will be especially thrilled Lake Mburo is a haven for birdlife. Keep your binoculars ready to spot species such as the African Fin foot, African Grey Hornbill, Brown Parrot, Common Scimitar bill, Crested Francolin, Papyrus Bush shrike, Nubian Woodpecker, Pelicans, Fish Eagles, Herons, Weaver Birds, Yellow-breasted Apalis, the White-winged Warbler, and with luck, the elusive Shoebill Stork. This peaceful cruise offers a perfect blend of relaxation and discovery, surrounded by the sights and sounds of Uganda’s beautiful wetland ecosystem.

Evening Nature Walk: After the boat cruise, you will go for a guided nature walk with an armed ranger within the park, the best place to go for a guided nature walk is at the salt lick area. This is where Zebras, Impalas and other park animals go to lick salt. A hidden wooden platform has been constructed where visitors can go and watch as park animals visit the salt mine. After the nature walk you will drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Transfer back to Kampala
Game Drive: This will be your last day in Lake Mburo National Park. Wake up early and take your breakfast before heading for another exciting encounter with the wildlife in the park. You will go for a morning game drive in the park where you will view animals waking up from their sleeping places and nocturnal animals going back to their hideouts.
Transfer back to Kampala: After this final day of exploring the park, you will check out of your lodge and embark on your Journey back to Kampala or the airport in Entebbe. There will be a stop at the equator crossing for lunch and to take photos as you stand in different parts of the earth’s hemisphere. We hope that you would have had a great time while at Lake Mburo.
